Skye Shadowlight (b.1974) is a rootin’ tootin’ Texan artist living and working in West Yorkshire. She is an emerging artist and has recently graduated from Leeds School of Art, Architecture and Design where she received a BA First Class Honours degree in Fine Art. She also walked away with The Alan Mohan Memorial Prize for Academic Excellence (2017) in relation to her new film work “Beer Is The Gun -  REFRAME: The Intentional Degradation of a Memory". For this work Skye hired three different groups of actors for the film to try to reframe a traumatic childhood memory.

Recent solo shows include MONSTER (Hebden Bridge Fringe Arts 2015) and SHADE SCHOOL (East Street Arts Pop Up 2015 & ARTURN Pop Up 2016). She has been heavily involved in the Leeds Art Scene appearing in many group shows over the past few years.

Skye’s Victorian School Installation SHADE SCHOOL recently appeared in London at The Shape Open February 2017, chosen for the show by Yinka Shonibare MBE (RA) even though the work exceeded the size limits ten fold.

Skye was a guest speaker at the World Autism Awareness Day event at Leeds Civic Hall (2016), where she spoke about inclusion in schools and explained why she built the installation SHADE SCHOOL. More recently Skye was invited to speak at the UCLAN Guest Lecture series in Burnley. Read the article here.

Skye is a modern day storyteller. She is always trying to find a way to connect with people, using art as a communication tool. Her daughter has Autism which sometimes appears in her work, however this is only a small facet of the work and ideas that are touched on in Skye’s complex and rounded practice. The work is about being human and all the things that it encompasses.
